ABOUT CHERRY
Cherry Johnston is the Principal Designer and Owner of South 33 Degrees, based in Byron Bay, Australia. Cherry has succeeded in creating a client base that appreciates her skills in interpreting their needs and desires. Working intuitively with each new project, She delves into the lifestyle and energy of each client. Some clients often not sure of their own style, Cherry can draw out what will make them happy in their space. After all, it’s their space to live or work in, she goes home.
Cherry has been intrigued with interiors from a young age. Watching her parents renovate, constantly rearranging her own room and anyone elses, she went on to study Interior Design in Sydney. With an Advanced Diploma in Interior Design/Architecture, graduating top of her year with the Excellence in Design Award in 1996. After years of working in Commercial design and residential in Sydney and London, she set up her company in 2000. Coming out of the tunnel of raising small children, she is moving into a new style of approaching design. Utilising her practical knowledge of what works in the lives of busy people, relaxing holiday homes, restaurants with a vibe, offices with soul, design is not all about what it looks like, but how it feels. Creating an atmosphere can be more important than anything else to get the most out of your money.
Cherry can be found styling rooms, renovating homes, working with architects on new homes, updating a local restaurant, sourcing furniture and finishes, planning an office layout or styling an event with humour and interest. She is currently most into WORK WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, rearranging, reworking and rethinking, ultimately reusing, recycling and reliving [any more re's?]. She specialises in setting up downsizing homes for over 55’s clients.
